Save or Splurge? Make-up Products

Have you ever spent a fortune on a make up item which got you thinking 'Did I really just spend that much on eyeliner?' I think it's safe to say that most of us beauty obsessives have spent our hard earned cash on something which left us crying inside (and more importantly, into our wallets). In today's post I will attempt to weed out those make up products that you really shouldn't need to spend a fortune on and the one's that you should.

Eyeshadow
When it comes to a good eyeshadow, let's face it.. quality is quantity. Often drugstore/high-street brands can be stiff, flakey and the pigmentation has a lot to be desired. With cosmetic company's like Urban Decay, Mac and Dior all offering some amazing eyeshadow palettes with rich, up to date colours which will last all day on your lids, why buy anything else?

Mascara
It has a shelf life of 3-6 months, you would think this would be something to save on as you replace it so often. Mascara is more of a personal make-up item for most woman, once you find 'the one' for you then your more than likely not going to change it. Yes, €50 is probably a silly amount to spend on a mascara for any woman, but then again if it's your favourite and nothing beats it then why change!? Benefits 'They're Real!' mascara and L'Oreal Telescopic are both great and the price tag is much more forgiving.

Foundation & Concealer
Nothing quite beats the feeling of buying a seriously good high end foundation! Picking your correct shade in foundation can be a hassle when buying from the drugstore/high-street. Bright, harsh lighting in shops can make it almost impossible to get that exact colour match. High end brands have more variety and choice when it comes to foundations, and the same goes for concealer. Not to mention the store assistants they have on stand-by to help you.

Lipstick
I find it hard to get good long-lasting lipsticks from the drugstore/high-street. Companies like MAC and YSL just seem to have the market cornered where lipstick is concerned. Don't be fooled though, of corse there is other great cheap brands out there but if your like me, and like to 'treat' yourself to a new lippie then I would definitely just recommend a splurge!

Blush, Bronzer & Powders
Trying to find a great coloured blush or bronzer in the drugstore/high-street is almost impossible. Whatever about mascaras, eyeliners and nail polish.. Blush and bronzer just seems to be the type of product you need to spend a bit of extra cash on - after all, you don't want to end up looking like a clown.

Strapped for cash? Save a fortune on these Cosmetics

Eyeliner
Personally, I don't think I've ever spent a fortune on eyeliner. I find it's one of those products you can always pick up in the drugstore/high-street for next to nothing and the quality is great. Most eyeliners are made from either wax or kohl, and let's be honest why spend €30+ on something when you can get the same product for way less.

Nail Polish
People may argue that high end brands of nail polish last longer and don't chip as quickly as regular brands, but in my experience of dealing with nail polishes, they are generally the same formula. Why spend a ridiculous amount of money on one bottle of nail polish when you can probably buy 10 bottles for the same price. A great alternative is to spend your money on a really good chip resistant top coat instead.

Eyelash Curlers
Yes, we've all heard about the amazing Shu Uemura eyelash curlers which work wonders on our eyelashes. Unless you have naturally long, thick lashes then I'm not sure I see the point in investing in one of these. Brands like Boots No.7 and Revlon do amazing curlers for half the price and work equally as good.

Lip Gloss & Lipliner
Generally lip gloss is meant to go on sheer, with less pigment than expected from a lipstick. Drugstore/high-street brands have brought lip gloss onto the market with now more choice in colours and formulations than ever before. Lipliners are usually made in the same few factories around the world because of the wood-pencil that is used in them, so they are generally the same. You may want to splurge on the lipstick, but save on the lipliner!
